The official method, step by step
- Pay is annualized, then reduced by the Form W-4 amount for your filing status ($8,600, or $12,900 if married filing jointly) unless the Step 2 box is checked.
- Federal income tax comes from the IRS 2026 Annual Percentage Method table for that status, divided back to one paycheck.
- Social security is 6.2% of wages until the year's wages reach $184,500.
- Medicare is 1.45% of all wages, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000 in the year.
- A pre-tax 401(k) lowers federal income tax wages, not social security or Medicare wages.
- Georgia income tax follows the percentage method in the Employer's Withholding Tax Guide 2026 (revised June 2026): the pay period's standard deduction ($15,000 a year, or $30,000 for married filing joint with one spouse working) and $5,000 a year for each G-4 allowance come off first, then 4.99% applies.
- Georgia cut its rate from 5.19% to 4.99% for 2026 (HB 463). Employers could start withholding at 4.99% from 11 May 2026; this calculator uses the new rules.
What this leaves out
- G-4 line 6 additional withholding (the pay stub generator handles it)
- Pay dates before 11 May 2026, when employers still withheld at 5.19%
- Benefits, garnishments and other after-tax deductions
- W-4 Step 3 credits and Step 4 entries (the pay stub generator handles them)

Georgia paycheck calculator: common questions
What is the Georgia income tax rate for 2026?
4.99%, a flat rate. HB 463 cut it from 5.19% for tax year 2026, and employers could begin withholding at 4.99% from 11 May 2026.
How is Georgia tax withheld from a paycheck?
The pay period's standard deduction and the value of the employee's G-4 allowances come off the pay, and 4.99% of the rest is withheld. For example, $2,000 semi-monthly, married filing joint with one income and one dependent: $2,000 − $1,250 − $208.33 = $541.67, and 4.99% of that is $27.03.
What do the letters A, B, C and D on the G-4 mean?
They pick the standard deduction: A single, B married filing separately or jointly with both spouses working, C married filing jointly with one spouse working, and D head of household. Only C uses the larger married deduction.
Can I make a pay stub from this?
Yes. Turn this into a pay stub opens the pay stub generator with the paycheck filled in; with Georgia as the work state, it can calculate the same Georgia line.
