- 1099-NEC generatorFor payments to an independent contractor for their services: nonemployee compensation, plus backup withholding and state boxes if you have them.
- 1099-MISC generatorFor other business payments: rents, royalties, prizes and awards, medical and health care payments, attorney proceeds and the other boxes on the form.
Which 1099 do you need?
Use 1099-NEC when you paid someone who isn’t your employee for work they did for your business. Use 1099-MISC for other reportable payments, such as rent, royalties or prizes. The IRS instructions set the amount at which each box must be reported, and it changes between years, so check them for the year you are reporting.
Contractors get a 1099, not a pay stub. Nothing is withheld from their pay, so there are no deductions to show each period. PayDocs makes pay stubs for employees only. Pay stubs and 1099 contractors
