The official method, step by step
- Pay is annualized, then reduced by the Form W-4 amount for your filing status ($8,600, or $12,900 if married filing jointly) unless the Step 2 box is checked.
- Federal income tax comes from the IRS 2026 Annual Percentage Method table for that status, divided back to one paycheck.
- Social security is 6.2% of wages until the year's wages reach $184,500.
- Medicare is 1.45% of all wages, plus 0.9% on wages over $200,000 in the year.
- A pre-tax 401(k) lowers federal income tax wages, not social security or Medicare wages.
- Idaho income tax follows the Tax Commission's percentage computation tables revised on 23 July 2026: 5.3% of the pay over a threshold for the pay period and status, which works out to $16,100 a year for single filers and $32,200 for married. The Idaho Child Tax Credit has ended, so no child tax credit allowances are subtracted.
What this leaves out
- Additional withholding requested on the ID W-4 (the pay stub generator handles it)
- Benefits, garnishments and other after-tax deductions
- W-4 Step 3 credits and Step 4 entries (the pay stub generator handles them)

A flat 5.3% of the pay over the table's threshold: for example $619 every two weeks for a single employee, or $1,238 for a married one.
How much Idaho tax comes out of $2,000 every two weeks?
Single: $2,000 less $619 is $1,381, and 5.3% of that is $73.19. Married: $2,000 less $1,238 is $762, and 5.3% is $40.39.
What happened to Idaho child tax credit allowances?
The Idaho Child Tax Credit has sunsetted, and the Tax Commission updated the 2026 withholding tables in July 2026. Employers use the revised tables going forward and don't adjust earlier 2026 paychecks.
Can I make a pay stub from this?
Yes. “Make an Idaho pay stub with these numbers” opens the pay stub generator with this paycheck, Idaho as the work state and these deductions filled in. Once you add the pay date, it can recalculate the same Idaho line.
