What a year of payslips costs
For a single payslip, PayDocs costs less: £3.99 against £6.93. For many payslips, makepayslip's unlimited plan can work out cheaper, if it is a one-off payment; its pricing page doesn't say.
| What you need | makepayslip | PayDocs |
|---|---|---|
| One payslip | £6.93 | £3.99 |
| Three payslips | £18.93 (3-payslip plan) | Three at £3.99, or a pack of 4 |
| 12 monthly payslips | £29.93 (unlimited plan) | A pack of 12 |
| 52 weekly payslips | £29.93 (unlimited plan) | Packs of 12 and 4; see the prices above |
A weekly-paid employee needs 52 or 53 payslips a year, so the price per payslip matters more than the headline. A monthly-paid nanny needs 12, plus a P60 after the tax year ends on 5 April. PayDocs prices a P60 like one payslip.

Where makepayslip is better
- An unlimited plan. If you make a lot of payslips, £29.93 covers as many as you need; PayDocs is priced per payslip, with packs.
- A P45. makepayslip lists a P45 form; PayDocs makes payslips and P60s but no P45.
- More templates: eight payslip designs in its menu, against six PayDocs layouts, and three colour versions of the P60.
- You can buy today. On the day we checked, the PayDocs checkout wasn't open yet.
Where PayDocs is better
- A lower price for one payslip: £3.99 against £6.93.
- The current tax year. makepayslip's FAQ, read on 8 October 2026, said it used 2025/26 tax bands and NI thresholds. Payslips for pay dates from 6 April 2026 fall in 2026/27. PayDocs works out PAYE income tax, National Insurance and supported deductions for 2026/27 pay dates.
- Statutory pay. Where tax calculation is switched on, PayDocs works out SSP, SMP and the other statutory payments from average weekly earnings as an editable earnings line, and you can always enter them by hand. We found no mention of statutory pay on makepayslip's pricing or home page.
- Free corrections for 30 days for the same employee and pay period, without moving to a bigger plan.
- A published refund policy covering faults on our side, double charges and unused packs, and pack credits that never expire.
Which one should you choose?
Choose makepayslip if you need a P45, or you'll make many payslips and its unlimited plan turns out to be a one-off payment. Ask it which tax year its calculations use before you rely on them for pay dates after 5 April 2026.
Choose PayDocs if you pay one or a few people, such as a nanny or a part-time employee, and want each payslip worked out with 2026/27 rules, including statutory pay. Its watermarked preview is free, so you can check the figures against HMRC's calculators before paying.
Neither tool runs payroll. An employer still reports pay to HMRC through Real Time Information with payroll software; HMRC's own Basic PAYE Tools is free for businesses with fewer than 10 employees.
